Regular Folk — That’s Who

Whether conducting a seminar, talking with marketing gurus, or just sharing a cup of coffee with a broker in another state — the question almost invariably is asked. “How would you describe your average client?”

nurse

Since I truly love dealing with my clients, answering that question is one of the favorite things I do these days.

They’re a 50ish nurse (who looks a lot like 40), a first grade teacher who was a leopard in another life, a truck driver who’s a karaoke pro, a 30′s couple who started their own business and thrived.
1st graders

A 50′s couple who are on the road a few times a year selling their wares. Two best friends (with half a dozen kids between them) about to hit adulthood (turning 30 soon :) ) who run a great burger joint together. A retired insurance salesman who hated his job and found new life in turning bad houses into great ones.

machinist

A landscape architect grooming his daughter to take over his business. A high school shop teacher who started over and won big. A 50′s couple who took a hit so big it must have felt like a death blow — but persevered and are now retiring next month — with a huge monthly income and more on the way.

18 wheeler

A 20′s up and coming loan officer who is so smart, and has such a magnificent future it’s scary. A 30-something pharmaceutical rep with a wife and kids making his mark. A couple, both of whom are teachers, with a vision — and more courage than is safe.

banker

A machinist who slowly but surely made his way until — boom! He owns property in three states. A 50′s lower middle management banker, who knows only about looking forward. An engineer who started his own business a couple decades ago and never looked back. A VP of marketing raising two great boys alone.

big jud's burger

A recovering attorney who’s making it as an investor just fine — in what’s about to become four states. A 75 year old man with no fear — retired from three successful careers — and still shaking things up. A 40ish couple both retired from their first careers — living the good life while still learning the ropes. An early 30′s middle management guy for a hi-tech firm with two kids and counting — about to begin.

trade show

Of course that’s not nearly the whole list, but you get the point, right? Only two of these folks earns six figures on the job. The rest? Most of them land somewhere between $45-85K or so. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t care if you make a million bucks a year, or are hoping to make $40K next year.

How would you describe these folks?

Regular folk — because that’s who they are. I know because I see them at the Regular Folk meetings. :)

And the common denominator linking them together? They’re all on their own journeys to retirements they thought could only exist in their imaginations.

When does your journey begin?

  1. People need to stop giving themselves excuses and realize other people JUST LIKE THEM are investing in real estate and winning.

They aren’t buying 20 properties a month or ending up on HGTV. They just go to work everyday and put a little aside, in both time and money, for their future.

Jeff, thank you for reminding everybody that Donald Trump isn’t our core client base. It’s the person reading this blog.

    Donald Trump indeed. :)

I’d bet our client bases put side to side would be almost homogeneous. In the end, it’s regular folk who win. Their ability to understand the long run, or big picture is the foundation for much of their success in creating abundant retirements.

It is so important for people in this country not to be intimidated by the super rich and conclude, “Why try?”.
There is such power in a 16% compounding investment…a little at a time that’s all it takes and the time value of money….POWERFUL.
You can have a great deal of fun on $13K per month.
Everyone can find their balance between wealth and freedom…the sweet spot.

Now why didn’t I think of writing that? :)

Readers – Cher and her husband are long time clients who are a little giddy these days. They are retiring next month on a whole bunch of totally sheltered income. In the next five years they’ll have yet another basket of monthly cash coming in – tax free for life.

Don’t forget us regular folk Cher. :)
