Rodil -- Certainly a step in the right direction, as cash flow analysis will indeed provide a relatively reliable value. Still, losses aren't incurred until the asset is sold for a loss. Same with gains, as it's a two way street. The issue isn't as black and white as some would have us believe. Both extremes lead to chaos in my opinion.

Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.

Some news today on Mark to Market:

"The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) agreed yesterday that it will propose to allow companies to use more "leeway" in valuing their assets under mark-to-market accounting, making it easier for companies to use their own models, estimates and judgment in determining the "fair value" of their assets.

One proposal they are discussing as a potential solution is to use cash flow analysis as an alternative way to determine the value of assets .... FASB plans a final vote on the proposal April 2nd, and if the rule change is voted in, companies could use the new guidance when issuing their first-quarter financial statements."

It was all back end stuff. When I went there this morning and saw the difference, the 'back end' of my brain crashed into the front end of my skull. :) Wow, it's gone from a Piper Cub to a Lear overnight.

When my bank made me a sizeable business loan last fall they did portfolio their loan because I am one that uses depreciation and whatever else I can do to make my income as low as possible. :)

If you find a banker that can use mathematical common sense you should court them like your wife.

Of course, you know this.

By the way, I don't see anything different and cool. What the heck?

[...] You know I must not have a life or something if I’m reading about mark to market at 11:30 on a Friday night, but I just finished reading one of my favorite bawldguy’s writings and since he was talking about me, I thought I’d take the liberty that he’s given me many times and guest post the entire discussion. So, here goes: [...]
