Hi, Thanks for this post. I'm in my research phase of deciding what to do with the $50,000 in a growing mutual fund that is a 5% salary match from my school. I got a bit scared when the market dipped two years ago. What if I was 68 and not my current age of 38 years old...and that was my retirement? Yikes. When I search for "real estate vs. stocks" articles, every other article mentions the benefits of the other. I'm still confused about what to do- withdraw the money (2% penalty) and buy a first investment property...or keep it in the market. I'm swayed by the concept of leverage, though, and I have two close friends who are in the real estate investment game (one with 3 properties, another with 50)...and extol the benefits of a long-term plan of buying a few properties within 10 years. Real estate simply "feels" safer to me. Thanks for your insight. -B
